Classic Matcha

  • 1 teaspoon ELEV8 Ceremonial or Ultra Premium matcha powder
  • 1/2 cup hot water (not boiling water, approx. 70-80°C)
  • 1/2 cup milk (or plant-based milk such as almond milk, soy milk, etc. for matcha latte

  1. Sift the matcha powder: Start by sifting the matcha powder into a small bowl. This step helps to dissolve any lumps and ensures a smooth texture of the drink.
  2. Preheat your tea bowl/glass: If you have a traditional matcha tea bowl (chawan) or glass, preheat it by filling it with hot water and pouring it out.
  3. Add hot water: In a separate cup or bowl, heat the water to the desired temperature (about 70-80°C). Be careful not to use hot water as this can burn the matcha powder and result in a bitter taste.
  4. Mix the matcha: Pour the hot water into the preheated tea bowl/cup with the filtered matcha powder. Use a bamboo tea stirrer (chasen) and vigorously stir the matcha with a sizzling motion until it is completely mixed and frothy. If you don't have a bamboo tea stirrer, you can use a small plain whisk or whisk.
  5. Enjoy: The classic matcha green tea or matcha latte is ready! Enjoy the unique and rich taste of matcha and feel free to adjust the ratio of water to matcha and the sweetness of the milk according to your taste.

More tips:

  • Matcha is best consumed fresh, so consume it as soon as possible for the most vivid flavors.
  • Experiment with different plant-based milks or add sweeteners like honey or agave syrup if you like.
  • For a more ceremonial feel, use a traditional bamboo ladle (chashaku) to measure out the matcha powder.

Enjoy the calming and invigorating experience of classic matcha green tea, whether it's a moment of mindfulness or a pleasant drink to start your day!
